Theme: Malmö the Bike Town

Over 500 km of bike lanes, intersections were cars yield to bikes, bike pumps on the street, 30 % of trips within the town done by bike, priority on snow plowing on bike lanes before streets and an upcoming bike rental system are only some of the things that makes Malmö a high ranking bike town. The biking organisation Cykelfrämjandet have given the title of Bike Town of Sweden four of the last five years, and in international rankings Malmö come in as the 6th best bike town in the world. Thus Malmö is a place of excellent biking condityions. However, competition in the top of the lists increase, and the town works hard to stay among the best bike town there are.

This round of Bike Orienteering looks closer at Malmö as a Bike Town and is put togeather in cooperation with the Street Planning Office (Gatukontoret) of Malmö Town. The control points are spread around town on a route that is classified as medium in difficulty. It tells about measures done on the biking scene; some of the controls will talk about the current work of Malmö Town, while others give a historical perspective on biking in Malmö from the 19th century to the present.

Those who manage to find all controls take part in a lottery where the winner gets a smaller prize.
