Bike Orienteering

The lastest map can be found here!

Bike Orienteering is the perfect combination of both mental and physical activity. Your goal is to find controls hidden all around the town without any of the common aids such as satnav, smartphones or detailed city maps. The only map allowed is the orienteering map, which has no labels for place or street names. Are you able to find the controls quick and easy, or will you get lost among the alleyways?

Every time we do bike orienteering we run on it a theme. It could be about history, nature, culture or pretty much anything. We are trying to keep it varied. Often the controls will be placed close to sites with a relation to the theme, and all controls tells a short story on the theme. If the theme is sports related the control might be about a famous athlete, or if it is on culture it could be about a public piece of art. Each control has either a question to be answered or a marker that you use to prove that you found it.

For each orienteering occasion the controls will be up a set period. Participants can do the orienteering any time during the duration for each theme. If time runs out one day that means it is possible to continue the next day where you left off.

When all controls are found or you feel to call it a day you hand in your answer sheet to us. The site for this is marked on all orienteering maps. Those who found all controls take part in a lottery for a small price with a connection to the theme.

Checklist

  1. The most important thing to have is the map, showing the controls. You can either
    • Print the map
    • Save the map at your smartphone/tablet, or
    • Pick up a copy at our partners Travelshop's store at Carlsgatan 4 for 5 SEK.
  2. You also need the answer sheet to show that you found all the controls. When we use questions, do not forget a pen to write with. To get the sheet you can
    • Print it, or
    • Pick it up for free at Travelshop at Carlsgatan 4.
Put the map and answer sheet in a plastic folder if it might rain.
  3. Make sure your bike is in good shape, so it does not break far from home. It is possible to rent a bike for 120 SEK at our partners Travelshop at Carlsgatan 4.
  4. Make sure your mobile phone is charged. To use it for navigation is cheating, but it is very useful to have if something happens far away from base.
  5. After completing the tour, do not forget to hand in the answer sheet. This is done at Travelshop at Carlsgatan 4. When their store is closed, put it in their letter box.
